King Crimson The Sheltering Sky

Stormy Mundy Selection (Occasional Series - Acts of Random Archive Rummaging)

The Sheltering Sky had initially been an improvisation born during the early rehearsals of the '80s quartet. Subsequently relearnt and arranged for the Discipline album and following tours. At its best, the piece often created a special atmosphere in concert that stepped beyond Crimson's usual frenetic pace and, in doing so, created a distinctive aural space that was as passionate as it was contemplative. In revisiting the number in 2019, new textures, including exploratory flute and brief Tippett-like piano flourishes, are introduced in this special composition. Tony is also heard introducing a new chord change in the middle section, which adds extra colour.  “I’d like to hear that again,” says Robert Fripp at the end, a pleasure that was denied to audiences until now.
